Amy Warden's Soap Challenge - Week 1

So, the lovely Amy Warden from Great Cakes Soapworks is hosting a 4 week Soap Challenge in which I am proudly participating in! The layout for the these challenge weeks will be as follows.

1. Challenge description
2. Scent description and color choices
3. Any problems I might have faced in the process
4. Picture of the soap in the mold
5. Picture of cut soap

Here we go for week 1 of this fabulous challenge!

1. Challenge description:

The Tiger Stripe. Amy's instructions say "Divide your soap into two different colors and pour a stripe of soap down the center of your mold, alternating colors each time until you have used up all the soap."

2. Scent description and color choices

The scent I decided to use was a dupe of Victoria's Secret Love Spell. This fragrance is easy easy easy to work with in cold process soap. I've never had any problems with particular oil so I thought it would be a great thing to use!

For my colors I used a hot pink mica, neon orange pigment and brick red mica

3. Any problems I might have faced in the process

Well, I did get some ash on my soaps. That's kinda normal for me though! However, it appears that one of my color layers ashed on the inside!!! Is that even possible??? Take a look at the pic bellow and see what you think.

So how do think I did? Week 1 is finished!

  2. Nice and bright colors, and of course beautiful tiger stripes. I was just wondering where you see soda ash in your soap??

    1. It ashed in the red areas. Kinda hard to see with the pictures. I think I've decided that the colorant was the problem, since the other stripes were fine!

  6. Great, bold colors!! Love your design! Yes, I've had some ash form on the side of the soap before as well. Can't say I know what causes it - some colorants ash more than others too. My theory is that I've cut the soap too soon, but I don't have any proof of that!
