Amy Warden's Soap Challenge - Week 3

1. Challenge description:

Mica Swirled Tops. Amy's instructions say  "The basic technique is to create a mica & oil mixture and drizzle it over the top of your soap, and then swirl it like you would with a contrasting colored soap. The oil will be absorbed into the soap leaving a beautiful mica swirl on top." So, I picked out 3 micas and went for it! I've actually done this technique several times and always end up eyeballing my mica and oil measurements!

2. Scent description and color choices

I left these unscented this time. I used 24 kt gold mica, ruby red mica, and silver mica!

3. Any problems I might have faced in the process

I for sure used too much olive oil in the mica mix! Next time I need to use about half! Since I did the CPOP method they were super oily from the mica mix once I removed them from the mold. Also, i got the wittle bitty bubbles on top. This is what happens when you use a silicone mold for CPOP. I knew it would happen, but I figured and explanation was due for the weird texture on top! Other than that, no a problem!

So how do think I did? Week 3 is finished!

  11. I used WAY too much oil with my mica - obviously not paying attention to instructions here. Your colors are beautiful and the swirls look great - love Ruby Red. I now know why I ended up with the funky texture on the top of my one-time attempt at CPOP. It was the silicone mat in my mold I bet (acrylic mold with a bottom silicone mat). Interesting and good to know. Thanks, Miss Katie !!

  15. I just had too thick batter to get those tiny swirls I like. I like your colours,Katie and the slab mould is a perfect choice for this challenge.
